National Poetry Day

Thursday 1st October is National Poetry Day! This year's theme is 'vision.'

Click the links below to read or listen to some poems based around this year's theme.

Poetry Competition

At Good Shepherd, this year, we are running a poetry competition. Using the poems above to give you some ideas, you need to write a poem about vision (something you can see).

It could be something that you see in your garden, something you see out of your window, or even something you can see in an imaginary world!

It is up to if you want your poem to rhyme or not.

You can present your poem however you like, the more creative the better!

Follow the link below, to look at different types of poems:

You can use the planning sheet below to plan your poem too.

When you have finished pass your poem to your teacher by Friday 16th October.

Miss Ryan will announce the winners after half term, and you could win a poetry book!

Good Luck!

Pyjamarama Day!

Due to school closures, we celebrated Pyjamarama Day at home this year.  Lots of us completed the online activities, there were drawing workshops, story times and lots of things to make.

 Year 5 Book Club

Some other Year 5 children were desperate to make a Harry Potter Book Club so began one today. It sounds like it is going to be great fun!

Boys Book Club

Miss Ryan began the Year 5 Boy's Reading Club today. They have begun the book 'Wonder'by R.J. Palacio.

Rescheduled Reading Cafe

Due to the poor weather we held the Reading Cafe after half term instead. The children and parents had a fantastic time.

Year 3 Debate

After Christmas it was Year 3's turn to go and visit the Civic Centre for a debate about Climate Change. The mayor was very impressed with our debating skills. We are all now going to try and make small changes in our own lives to reduce our carbon footprint.

Autumn Book Fair

Lots of children and adults came to purchase some new books from the book fair, we earned lots of commission for school so we can purchase some new books too!

Lunchtime Reading Club

The Lunchtime Reading Club began at the end of November. The children have enjoyed having a quiet, cosy space to read during lunchtime. They have enjoyed a selection of books, newspapers and comics. These will continue during Tuesday lunchtime, on a timetable basis, for the remainder of the year.
